BLUETTI D300S PV Step Down Module
Every BLUETTI power station has a built-in solar input. On the AC300, AC500, EP500, and EP500 Pro, that input caps at 140–150 V. That’s fine for a couple of portable solar panels wired in series the exact use case those units were designed for.
But if you’ve got real solar the kind on a house roof, wired into a string that hits 300–500 V, or the kind connected to an existing grid-tied inverter your BLUETTI can’t take it. Connect directly and you either lose most of the array’s output (through voltage mismatch) or damage the input entirely.
The D300S PV Step Down Module is what BLUETTI built to solve that problem. It sits between your high-voltage solar array and the BLUETTI’s DC input, converting the voltage down to a safe 120 V range without limiting current or throwing away power.
What it does, specifically
- Accepts DC input from 100 V to 550 V — covers most residential rigid panel string configurations
- Outputs 65 V to 135 V DC — safely within every AC300, AC500, EP500, and EP500 Pro input limit
- 3,000 W in, 3,000 W out — no throttling under normal conditions
- Dual MPPT inputs (PV1 + PV2) — track two separate solar strings independently, useful for panels facing different directions on a roof
- Aviation-to-dual-MC4 output cable included connects directly to your BLUETTI’s solar input port

An honest note on noise
The D300S uses active fan cooling that varies with load:
- Under 1,500 W — quiet, up to about 45 dB (fridge hum level)
- Above 1,500 W — noticeably louder, up to 54 dB (background conversation level)
At full 3,000 W input on a sunny midday, the unit is genuinely audible from across a room. This doesn’t matter if the D300S is mounted in a garage, shed, or utility room, but do not install it in a bedroom, office, or any space where noise during peak solar production would be disruptive.

Where to mount it
The D300S is IP54 rated dust-protected and splash-resistant, but not fully weatherproof. Mount it:
- Inside a garage, shed, or utility space — ideal
- Under an eave or covered patio — acceptable, protected from driven rain
- In direct sun and rain exposure — not recommended; use a weatherproof enclosure
Wall-mount hardware is designed for permanent installation. At 7 kg, the D300S is heavier than most solar accessories — use appropriate anchors for the mounting surface.

Installation practical notes
The DC side of any high-voltage solar install carries real risk. Some rules that are non-negotiable:
- The D300S main switch must be OFF before connecting anything. Wiring live MC4 connectors under load is dangerous and can damage the unit.
- A PV isolator switch is required on the input side. Use a DC switch rated for at least 600 V and 20 A. This lets you safely disconnect the array during service without pulling live MC4 connectors.
- String voltage must exceed 120 V at startup. Below this threshold, the D300S won’t begin charging. A small array might work in bright sun but fail at dawn/dusk plan string sizing conservatively.
- Never exceed 550 V under any conditions. Solar panels produce higher voltage in cold weather than nameplate specs suggest. Design string voltage for maximum 500 V at nameplate conditions to leave headroom for cold-weather boost.
- Grounding matters. Follow your local electrical code for PV system grounding this isn’t just paperwork, it’s what protects the system from arc faults and lightning surges.
- Hire a licensed installer if you’re not comfortable with 500 V DC work. This is significantly more dangerous than 12 V or 24 V DC installations. It’s not a DIY-friendly voltage level for anyone without PV experience.
Where the D300S earns its cost
- Existing rooftop solar owners — feed a battery backup from the array you already have, without replacing your grid-tied inverter
- Off-grid cabin and rural home builds — install a proper 6–10 panel roof array and feed it into an AC300 or AC500 with battery storage
- Ground-mount installations — mount panels on a purpose-built rack, wire them at real string voltage, feed the D300S from the array
- Solar shed or workshop setups — dedicated solar array for a workshop, feeding into an AC500 with battery pack for tool power
- Boat or RV rigid-panel installations — where a series-wired array can easily exceed the BLUETTI’s built-in DC input voltage
D300S vs SolarX 4K which to buy
BLUETTI has released a newer product, the SolarX 4K, that does a similar job with higher capacity (4,000 W vs 3,000 W) and more modern features (BLE, Wi-Fi, 99% MPPT efficiency, up to 500 V input). Which one you need depends on your BLUETTI unit:
- D300S — the correct choice for AC300, AC500, EP500, and EP500 Pro owners. Sits between the array and the built-in solar input on these units.
- SolarX 4K — designed for the newer Apex 300 platform (and also compatible with AC300/AC500 and B300-series batteries via different cable configurations). Higher wattage, more modern feature set.
If you own an AC300/AC500/EP500/EP500 Pro today and don’t plan to upgrade to Apex 300, the D300S is right for your setup. If you have (or are planning) an Apex 300, use the SolarX 4K instead.
What the D300S doesn’t do
Worth being clear on:
- Not a grid-tie inverter. The D300S produces DC output only, and only for BLUETTI power stations. It cannot feed a home’s AC panel, doesn’t sell power back to the grid, and doesn’t require utility interconnection approval.
- Not for Apex 300. BLUETTI’s newer platform uses the SolarX 4K, not the D300S.
- Not for AC200 / AC200P / AC200MAX or smaller units. Those have different input specs and their own solar input options.
- Not silent. Fans get loud under peak solar production. Mount in a utility space.
